First Mechatronics Level 2 Training to be Offered

Level 1 not required to enroll

The SoVA Center of Manufacturing Excellence (SoVA CME)’s, Mechatronics program will take another step forward when it offers its first Mechatronics Level 2 training in September. Training will take place at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in downtown South Boston.

Mechatronics Level 2 training will cover six topics: process control technologies, totally integrated automation, automation systems, motor control, mechanics and machine elements, and manufacturing processes. Individuals who successfully complete training will have the opportunity to earn the internationally recognized Siemens Mechatronics Systems Associate credential. Although Siemens equipment is used for training, participants gain the skills needed to work in any industry, with any brand of equipment.

“Mechatronics certification is short-term, hands-on training that offers a path to good jobs that exist today,” said Ricky Gordon, SoVA CME Mechatronics Program Leader.

Level 2 training will begin on September 19th and classes will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Individuals are not required to have completed Level 1 Mechatronics training before enrolling in Level 2.

“Mechatronics is not only the marriage of electrical, mechanical and computer technologies, but it is a holistic philosophy for looking at how these individual topics make up the entire system,” said Will Soyars, SoVA CME Associate Director. “This allows technicians to keep machinery running by eliminating downtime which helps with a company’s efficiency and bottom line,” he continued.

Individuals interested in learning more about the Level 2 Mechatronics training should attend an upcoming information session on the following dates and times:
